Non-Surgical Buttock Augmentation Using Sculptra

The most common form of buttock augmentation that I perform is a surgical procedure and involves liposuction plus fat grafting to the buttocks (also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift). I remove fat from the abdomen, flanks, and lower back via liposuction, purify it, and graft it to the buttocks to increase their fullness, projection, and symmetry. Buttock enhancement procedures are among the fastest growing in plastic surgery procedures, and fat grafting is the most popular among them. There is a wide range of augmentations that are possible using the body’s own fat depending on the patient’s surgical goals, and it is a permanent augmentation with approximately 75% of the grafted fat remaining long-term. For those who may lack enough harvestable fat, buttock implants may also be a surgical option. However, fat grafting is my preferred way to perform buttock augmentation, because it is a natural substance and has fewer complications.

For those who prefer a non-surgical option, non-surgical buttock augmentation using Sculptra is also possible. It is an injectable poly-L-lactic acid filler mostly used on the face. Sculptra stimulates the body’s own collagen growth and is often used for cheek augmentation or temple rejuvenation. Unlike Sculptra, other dermal fillers are usually Hyaluronic Acid based and are meant to directly replace lost volume on the face.

Amounts of Sculptra injected vary and depend on the patient’s desired outcome for buttock augmentation, but I like to do approximately 10 vials over the course of 2 or 3 sessions. This treatment is significantly more expensive than fat grafting due to the volume of Sculptra required. Fat grafting is by far the more popular option for buttock augmentation, but this non-surgical technique can be a good fit for several types of patients: those desiring a less dramatic augmentation, those who seek to avoid surgery or the downtime thereof, or those who may not have enough fat to perform fat grafting.
