A patient of Dr. Zuckerman’s in New York City who underwent treatment of the Glabella muscles (the 11’s) with Botox Cosmetic. Patient treated with 11 units in corrugator muscles, 2 units in procerus muscles, 10 units in upper forehead. Images taken just prior to treatment and then seven days afterward.
As the aging process progresses, it is very common for patients to develop standing vertical lines between the brows. Dr. Zuckerman can address these lines by injecting Botox Cosmetic into the glabella muscles, which control the movement of the brows inwards. Left alone, these lines or furrows would grow deeper over time as a result of frowning or concentration. Dr. Zuckerman’s patients often find that existing verticle fine lines and wrinkles in this area are eliminated when the area fully relaxes after undergoing treatment.

Most patients require three to four treatments per year to maintain a continual effect.
Treatment takes approximately one week to set in and lasts three to four months.
10 – 20 minutes per treatment (Often combined with Forehead Antiwrinkle Treatment and Crow’s Feet Treatment)
Dr. Zuckerman recommends patients take the following precautions before undergoing injections to the glabella to minimize bruising: no NSAIDs such aspirin or ibuprofen within a couple days before a day after, don’t drink alcohol to excess a day before and a day before, refraining from lying flat or working out within 2 hours after injection.
This treatment involves little to no downtime, and patients often return to work immediately after treatment. There may be slight bleeding or redness at the injection sites, but these will resolve within a few hours.
Injections of the Glabella, or “11’s” lines, with Botox are overhwelmingly safe and popular. However, this treatment is still a medical procedure involving a paralytic agent. The most common complaint that Dr. Zuckerman hears from patients who previously visited other, less experienced practitioners are a change in eyebrow shape or looking overly frozen or overdone. However, possible risks due to improperly injected Botox may include a drooping eyelid. Visit a board-certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Zuckerman, who is familiar with the anatomy in the area and performs Botox injections in a safe, medical environment.
Dr. Zuckerman will recommend a number of units to you for this treatment based on your age and the strength of your glabella muscles. There is a surprising amount of variation in the strength of usage of these muscle. This area receives somewhere in the range of 15 to 25 units. For first or second-time patients, Dr. Zuckerman often recommends that you make a follow-up appointment 8 to 14 days after treatment. He can then perform a touch-up treatment and record exactly how many units optimally suits you.
