Before and after of one of Dr. Zuckerman’s cheek enhancement patients in New York City. Patient treated with 1cc of Voluma filler total to the cheeks and midface. Patient pictured on the day of treatment before and after. Added volume is subtle, so arrows are provided.
Dr. Zuckerman performs cheek filler injections using the Hyaluronic Acid Voluma to achieve beautiful but subtle cheek augmentation. As we age, the midface and especially the cheeks descend due to gravity and the atrophy of youthful fat. High cheekbones are responsible for a large percentage of our perception of youth, brightness, and midface beauty, and this treatment has become quite popular amongst celebrities and those on television as a way to camouflage age-related descent of the midface.
Cheek augmentation via dermal fillers is an unobtrusive way to brighten and reverse some of the natural flattening in the cheeks and midface. A single 1cc vial of dermal filler restores a youthful fullness to the cheeks and gently lifts up the nasolabial folds (the “parentheses” around the mouth). All this without leaving the patient looking at all “overdone”. Dr. Zuckerman tailors each cheek augmentation treatment and injection locations to the individual patient, because each exhibits different patterns of aging. Patient satisfaction with Dr. Zuckerman’s cheek augmentation treatment is extremely high. Related nasolabial fold treatment with dermal filler or tear trough (under eye) rejuvenation also with dermal filler may also be options for patients desiring improvement in the midface.

Most patients require one treatment of cheek filler per year to maintain a continual effect.
Treatment is visible immediately and finalizes within one week. It lasts up to one year. Results will vary depending on how much product Dr. Zuckerman injects and how quickly the patient metabolizes Hyaluronic Acid.
10 – 20 minutes per treatment
Dr. Zuckerman issues a few guidelines to minimize the probability of mild bruising after treatment:
However, these guidelines don’t typically prevent patients from undergoing treatment. Please ask Dr. Zuckerman at the time of treatment if you have concerns about one of these issues.
Some patients with sensitive skin may experience redness, mild bruising, or minimal bleeding at the injection sites. This will resolve within minutes to hours. Bruising may present for one to two days post treatment. If patients would like to put on skin makeup products post treatment, this is acceptable, but if possible, he does recommend avoiding makeup afterward on the day of treatment.
Hyaluronic Acid filler injection in general is very safe, and this remains so in the case of cheek enhancement. The most common “risk” is that patients are not happy with their injector’s result and may look overdone. As a result, it is important to visit a board-certified plastic surgeon who is aware of the anatomy of the midface. Dr. Zuckerman performs precise, customized treatment for each patient to offset their specific pattern of age-related midface descent. While a rare event, a patient allergic to Hyaluronic Acid filler can be treated effectively in the safe, medical environment of Dr. Zuckerman’s office to quickly reverse treatment.
Yes, Hyaluronic Acid injectable fillers like Voluma are safe and FDA-approved for use in the cheeks and midface. Dr. Zuckerman recommends that you visit a board-certified plastic surgeon for your injections to ensure a sterile, medical environment and high-quality treatment result.
