The neck tends to show aging in three particular ways due to gravity, sun damage, and genetics. First, the platysmal muscles in the neck may sag and form vertical bands, also known informally as turkey neck. Dr. Zuckerman can address these bands by performing Botox Cosmetic injections in targeted areas. Not everyone will develop these bands as they age, and there seems to be a genetic component to their formation. However, Botox injections will make a significant impact in “softening” their appearance. Second, horizontal lines and wrinkles in the neck may form over time. Dr. Zuckerman can also address these by injecting Botox Cosmetic in a second pattern. Third, fat may accumulate under the chin softening the jawline in an undesirable manner. Dr. Zuckerman can perform double chin removal treatment using Kybella, a relatively new FDA-approved injectable.
Most patients require three to four treatments per year to maintain a continual effect.
Treatment takes one week to set in and can last three to four months.
10 – 20 minutes per treatment
Dr. Zuckerman recommends patients take the following precautions before undergoing neck rejuvenation to minimize bruising: no NSAIDs such aspirin or ibuprofen within a couple days before a day after, don’t drink alcohol to excess a day before and a day before, refraining from lying flat or working out within 2 hours after injection.
This treatment involves little to no downtime, and patients often return to work immediately after treatment. There may be slight bleeding or redness at the injection sites, but these will resolve within a few hours.
Botox Cosmetic injections to the neck are overwhelmingly safe in the hands of an experienced injector who is aware of the anatomical structures of the neck. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Zuckerman is an expert in both surgical and non-surgical techniques in the area, so you can be sure you are in great hands for treatment.
Dr. Zuckerman will recommend a number of units to you for this treatment based on your age, the extent to which you tend to squint, and the amount of sagging in your brows laterally. Generally speaking, this area receives somewhere in the range of 2 to 6 units. For first or second-time patients, Dr. Zuckerman often recommends that you make a follow-up appointment 8 to 14 days after treatment. He can then perform a touch-up treatment and record exactly how many units optimally suits you.
