Zuckerman Plastic Surgery offers powerful medical grade skincare from SkinMedica®. This line of products is owned by Allergan, the makers of Botox Cosmetic, and is sold only through authorized physicians. It was created by doctors who helped pioneer research into the topical application of human growth factor-based serums to treat lines and wrinkles and to improve skin quality. We offer the entire line of SkinMedica® products including:
• Hydrating Products: a group of moisturizing products, most of which contain Hyaluronic Acid (a naturally occurring substance in the body, which can retain 40 times its weight in water)
• Lines, Wrinkles & Pigmentation Correction: growth factor based serums, retinoid products, and scar recovery products
• Daily SPF Protection: lightweight, sheer sunscreens with a high level of UVA and UVB protection that won’t clog pores
• Cleansers: a group of facial wash products made with alpha-hydroxy acids for exfoliation

SkinMedica® Hydrating Products
a lip plumping and smoothing product.
SkinMedica offers several moisturizing products that contain a derivative of Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin. Hyaluronic Acid has the ability to retain up to 40 times its weight in water on the surface of the skin, and while it is most effective in injectable form in dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, 91% of participants in a SkinMedica study agreed that after 8 weeks of twice-daily use, HA5 made their skin feel “more refreshed” and “moisturized”*. SkinMedica’s formulation is a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid delivering enhanced hydration to the skin in a smooth, non-viscous cream. The product line also includes an ultra rich moisturizer called the Dermal repair cream for those with dry skin.
Another popular Hyaluronic Acid-based product in SkinMedica line is the HA5 Smooth and Plump Lip System. This two-stage product plumps the appearance of lips, improves overall lip condition, hydrates, visibly enhances rosiness, and smooths fine lines. 90% of participants in a SkinMedica conducted study agreed that their lips looked naturally plump at week 4**.

SkinMedica® Lines, Wrinkles, Scar, and Pigmentation Correction Products
Dr. Zuckerman and Zuckerman Plastic Surgery are pleased to offer this corrective line of SkinMedica products, many of which include growth factors or peptides to improve the apperance of lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation unevenness in damaged, mature skin. SkinMedica helped pioneer the science of growth factors in skincare, and it has become a major category today.
What are growth factors?
Growth factors are natural substances in the body made by skin cells, in this case fibroblasts, to maintain healthy skin but are very different than growth hormones. These factors are responsible for the repair of damaged skin and for the components that provide elasticity and firmness. Unfortunately, as we age, our cells produce lower concentrations of these growth factors. There have been several clinical studies performed to demonstrate the efficacy of topically applied growth factors, including 11 studies performed specifically on cosmetic efficacy of SkinMedica’s TNS Essential Serum®. Most studies show a visible reduction in crow’s feet lines around the eyes, an improvement in the thin, sensitive under-eye skin texture, and overall radiance. Generally applied twice daily, diligent use of these products can produce impressive results, and below we have provided a before and after comparison courtesy of SkinMedica.
SkinMedica’s TNS Essential Serum® contains a combination of growth factors with strong antioxidants. Made of 93%+ growth factors, this high concentration is somewhat unique among similar products. While skincare products are over-the-counter cosmetic products and are not tested as thoroughly as FDA-approved medical treatments, SkinMedica’s physician founders and its parent company Allergan have done a relatively thorough job in conducting clinical studies to rigorously demonstrate efficacy.*
(As a side note, there are additional ways to harvest growth factors including deriving them from your own blood. One popular treatment Dr. Zuckerman also performs is the “Vampire Facial”, where platelet rich plasma, a component of blood containing growth factors, is injected into the living epidermis via tiny, shallow punctures in the skin made by a microneedling device. There is some thought that this treatment is more effective than simple topical application of a serum containing growth factors.)
SkinMedica Scar Recovery Gel
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, one of Dr. Zuckerman’s core competencies involves minimizing the appearance of scarring. Wound and scar care require a comprehensive regimen lasting up to one year. This process starts with proper closure of wounds, and Dr. Zuckerman is often asked to close complex wounds or incisions in cosmetically sensitive areas of the body and face. For surgical scars, he often recommends silicone gel sheets for initial wound healing. After the scar is initially healed, a product like SkinMedica’s Scar Recovery Gel with Centelline® is an important part of a skincare regimen and can soften and minimize the appearance of red or pink scars. Proper scar care and maintenance, including SkinMedica Scar Recovery Gel and the application of SPF 30+ protection daily, can result in impressively subtle final scars.
SkinMedica Lytera Skin Pigmentation Correction
Aging and sun damage in some people leads to skin discoloration and unevenness of pigmentation. SkinMedica’s Lytera line of products brightens dull skin and minimizes the appearance of skin discoloration and dark spots without the use of hydroquinone. In a manufacturer-sponsored study, 79% of participants reported improvement in the evenness of skin tone after 12 weeks*. These products contain Vitamin C, Vitamin B3, peptides, and a retinoid. Retinoid based products make your skin more sensitive to the sun and should be applied in tandem with, and before, the use of an SPF sun protection product. Do not use if you are pregnant, lactating or planning to become pregnant.

SkinMedica Retinoid Products
Zuckerman Plastic Surgery offers three different formulations of SkinMedica retinoid products, which can diminish the appearance of fine lines and coarse wrinkles. As a mild irritant, retinoid creams induce exfoliation and enhance skin tone and texture. Dr. Zuckerman recommends that you begin with the weakest retinoid product, the 0.25% formulation, and move to the 0.5% and 1.0% formulations over time as your skin becomes conditioned to its use. In addition, upon first use, Dr. Zuckerman and SkinMedica recommend periodic application, approximately twice per week, to minimize irritation and redness. Retinoid based products make your skin more sensitive to the sun and should be applied in the evening. Do not use if you are pregnant, lactating or planning to become pregnant.

SkinMedica® SPF Protection Products
Sun damage causes more perceived signs of aging than any other single factor. As a result, it is very important to include a skincare product with SPF in your daily regimen for application to the face, neck, and decolletage. Zuckerman Plastic Surgery offers several lightweight SkinMedica sunscreen products with SPF ratings from 20 up to 50+, which protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays and strive not to clog pores. For those with fair skin, Dr. Zuckerman recommends either the Essential Defense Everyday Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 47 or the Total Defense + Repair Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50+. For those with skin less sensitive to the sun, SkinMedica also has a daily moisturizer product that includes the TNS Essential Serum with growth factors, as described above, but it is only SPF 20. We also offer a tinted SkinMedica SPF product as well. Many of these products are appropriate for all skin types: oily, dry, or combination.
SkinMedica® Cleansers & Other Products
Finally, Zuckerman Plastic Surgery offers the entire line of SkinMedica cleansing products. By including one of these products in your daily skincare regimen, you will remove environmental pollutants, excess oil and makeup, and hydrate and refresh your skin. Several of these products include alpha-hydroxy acids including glycolic acid to exfoliate your skin and improve its texture, tone, and smoothness.
Other products we offer include two eye serums also made with SkinMedica’s TNS growth factor serum. These products smooth the appearance of the sensitive skin around the eyes and reduce the appearance of puffiness and fine lines. The SkinMedica product line also includes a daily firming body lotion called GlyPro Daily Firming Lotion, which contains alpha-hydroxy acid to helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also supports natural skin turnover for smoother-looking, softer skin.
For those suffering from mild to moderate adult acne, we offer the three-step SkinMedica acne
clearing system, which includes a lotion, face wash, and toner. These products contain salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide. Combined, these three products can help you recover from the unsightly signs of adult acne.
