Round vs Shaped Implants
The majority of breast augmentations are performed with round implants, which Dr. Zuckerman also generally recommends that patients select. Shaped or "Gummy Bear" implants were first introduced by Natrelle (Allergan) with the idea that often a breast augmentation may be characterized by more "upper fullness" than a natural breast. The shaped implants partially ameliorate that issue but are at risk for changes in position over time, potentially causing asymmetry in the breasts. However, both kinds are FDA-approved, and both are made by all three major breast implant manufacturers. Dr. Zuckerman will make a recommendation to you based on your existing anatomy, and after discussion with you about your goals, you will together finalize your choice of implant. Dr. Zuckerman is happy to perform breast augmentations with either shape of implant.
