While each of the three manufacturers markets themselves as having a differentiated product, they are generally more or less fungible. Each company offers both round and anatomically shaped implants, textured and smooth implants, low, moderate and high profile implants, etc. Natrelle, the brand by Allergan, tends to be slightly more expensive than the other two. They were the initial inventors of the anatomically shaped implants. Dr. Zuckerman often favors Mentor implants, but the choice is largely one of familiarity. The choice of implant manufacturer does not have a large effect on the breast augmentation outcome. Much more important is the size of implant. All implants offered by all three companies are FDA-approved and as your surgeon, Dr. Zuckerman will be happy to discuss your preference.
Note: a more recent entrant into the market are Ideal® Implants. They offer a ‘structured saline’ implant, which is thicker than normal saline solution. Please contact Dr. Zuckerman’s office if you would like more information on this type of implant.
